“We have the resources available to accomplish the mission here,” he explained. “I enjoy it and am able to utilize the people skills I’ve developed through the years.” Bolt said being a member of LCSO is everything he’d hoped it would be. “It’s a very diverse district and we deal with people from all social and economic classes,” he said. Everything I heard back was positive and I thought: Why not be on the winning team?” In December of 2020 Bolt was sworn in as an LCSO Deputy and began road patrol in the West District soon after. “Then I started asking people if he was genuine and if the things he was saying about LCSO being a family were true. “The Sheriff was in the public eye and I actually got to meet him at an event,” Deputy Bolt recalled. It was in 2019, however, that Bolt began taking notice of Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno and liked the message he heard.

During his years in Hendry County, Bolt continued to learn, becoming a K9 handler to attain those skills and even earning a pilot’s license just because it seemed like an interesting challenge. “It’s a smaller, rural department but it taught me a lot of people skills that really helped me develop as a deputy,” said Bolt. A move to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office in 2009 provided greater opportunities. From there, sponsored by the Arcadia Police Department, Bolt went through the academy and worked road patrol in Arcadia for five years. “I like to learn and have continued to do so throughout my career.” After high school and some college, he focused on a career with the Florida Department of Corrections working three years in the DeSoto County Correctional Institution. “From an early age my parents always instilled the value of education,” Bolt said. After Hurricane Gilbert ravaged the Caribbean island in September of 1988, Bolt, then 9 years old, and his family relocated to Port Charlotte. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was eight months old when the Bolt family moved to Kingston, Jamaica.

His massive stature and ready smile are helpful in that regard. A literal larger-than-life presence at 6-feet, 7-inches tall, Deputy Bolt calls himself a “fixer” in terms of resolving problems among residents in the district.
